Noun
phrase is a phrase or a group of words with a noun as the center or
head. It consists of a noun (noun headword) and describing words.
We
often combine nouns and adjectives to make noun phrases.
Example:
- a thin magazine
- an empty bottle
- long spear
We
can also use more than one adjectives to make noun phrases.
Example:
- a new thin magazine
- a big empty bottle
- Long sharp spear.
The
describing words may come before the noun headword or after it. If
they come before the noun, it’s called pre-modification. If they
come after the noun, it’s called post-modification.
